Abstract:
Air photographs, small excavations since 1766, and fieldwalking indicate a well-planned small town of about twenty-six acres, on a badly drained site, occupied from mid 1st to 4th century and flourishing in late 1st to early 2nd. There is no good evidence for an early fort; substantial defences were built in late 2nd century. F B
