Abstract:
SE 932287. Five rooms were discovered, three with hypocausts. Room 1, built after AD 330, was decorated with one of the largest known British figured mosaics (Tyche, water-nymphs and busts). Similarities with mosaics from Horkstow and Winterton suggest a single Petuarian workshop as the source. Rooms 2 and 3 also contained mosaics. Three rooms had painted plaster; in Room 1 two female heads comparable with Continental examples had been painted on the ceiling and perhaps imitated the floor designs. Local pottery was sealed beneath the Room 1 mosaic. A T
