Abstract:
A report on the results of a continuing metal detector survey of an arable field site, at an undisclosed location in the parish of Cottam and Cowlam (see also 91/624). The distribution of the find-spots is considered and the date range of the artefactual assemblage discussed: these are mostly mid-Saxon but include undated items and Roman coins. The finds are catalogued (27--39): they are chiefly of bronze, iron and lead, although a pottery gaming counter, stone phallus, and a bone comb were also found. A quern, described in the earlier article, is now identified as a Romano-British type.
