Abstract:
NZ 636201 & 622199. Prolific sites discovered at the northern corners of the Upleatham Hills have approximately equal numbers of microliths and scrapers and are interpreted as settlements in contrast to the ?hunting camps on the central moors of N Yorkshire. The Upleatham sites were probably the home base of an extended family unit which alternated between hunting in the high forest (now moor) and fishing and fowling by the sea. Evidence is also presented for activity in the Tees basin. Trace element analyses carried out on flint from several sites proved inconclusive in the present state of knowledge. Au(adp)
