This article describes the survey of a large late 19th to early 20th century limeworks and associated Hoffman limekiln near Settle, North Yorkshire. The survey results are combined with oral testimonies and documentary evidence to provide an account of the origin, development and operation of the site. This includes a detailed account of the Hoffman kiln. The conclusion assesses the site within its historical context.
