Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Describes and discusses the two silver arm-rings from the Rathmooley hoard, deeming one to be of Scandinavian origin and the other of Hiberno-Norse origin. Other Viking Age silver finds from the county are also described and the rod-arm-rings dated by association to the ninth or tenth century. Earlier examples are provenanced to Norway, with later examples coming more frequently from other Scandinavian countries, prompting speculation that the crafting of this style originated in Norway and later spread throughout the Viking world. | |||||||||||
