Abstract:
Description and interpretation of Childrey House, Childrey, near Wantage in Oxfordshire. The building has early origins, possibly in the early 15th century, and was a small hall house with at least the hall open to the roof and heated by a central hearth. A 'proper' fireplace and upper rooms were introduced in the late 16th or early 17th century, whilst in the 18th century major works were also carried out, including the rebuilding of the east end. LD
