In 2013 Sharnbrook Local History Group was able to carry out a community archaeology project on the site of a Scheduled Monument on the western edge of the village of Sharnbrook in Bedfordshire. This moated earthwork is believed to be a medieval site, possibly a castle or manor house, and is of particular interest because it is one of only four oval or circular moated sites in the county. This short report outlines the limited documentary evidence of the site's history and describes the fieldwork that was carried out, which included an auger survey and the excavation of a trench. The finds and features revealed, which included an oven or hearth, could be confidently dated to the 12th century AD. The archaeological evidence appears to support the argument from historical records that this is the site of Triket Bury, manor house of the Triket family in the 12th century. LD | |||||||||
