Short account of the origins of the Northamptonshire Archaeological Society (NAS), which grew from a federation of smaller local societies. Founded in 1974, the Society has published its journal, Northamptonshire Archaeology, on an almost annual basis. Some milestones in its history are also noted: NAS marked its 25th anniversary in 1999 with a day school, and published an overview of the archaeology of the county in 2004. To mark its 40th anniversary in 2014, the Society plans to host a weekend of ancient crafts at Sywell Country Park. LD |
