Early in 2011 a local archaeologist observed the remains of a limestone wall on a development site at Woodlands, Manton Lane, Bedford. Excavating with the permission of the developer, he provisionally dated the wall as Roman, which if confirmed would indicate the presence of a previously unknown and potentially significant archaeological site. Subsequent investigation by Albion Archaeology confirmed the presence of a wall foundation of probable Roman date as well as some additional features and a demolition deposit.
