Abstract:
Archaeological recording work and a building assessment were carried out at Yate Court, a moated manor house between Yate and Wickwar in South Gloucestershire. The subject of the building assessment was a Grade II listed sixteenth-century barn. The archaeological monitoring of the groundworks took place during the initial work on the conversion of the barn into a residence and during the excavation of foundation trenches for additional adjacent accommodation. Surviving sections of the east and south medieval curtain walls were recorded in places, but most had apparently been demolished during the Civil War. Archaeology dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries was also recorded.
