Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A cold bath dating from the mid-eighteenth century was found in Gorse Lane, Clifton during redevelopment of the derelict site. The bath, with its detached bath house, had been converted into a coal cellar for one of a row of nineteenth-century cottages facing into a court. It is possible that the whole bath house was converted into cottages, but the structure had been mostly demolished before 1939, when a Public Assistance Relief Office was begun on the site. This office was never completed, and after bomb damage, was demolished, and the site was used as a car park. Excavation and investigation on the site was carried out between 2001 and 2003 and the remains of the bath house and intact bath tub have been preserved in situ. | ||||
