Abstract:
A Saxo-Norman cemetery was followed by a church for St Augustine's Abbey, in 13th century becoming the parish church. A period of decline was followed by enlargement, and in a fashionable 18th century milieu numerous internal burial vaults and graves were made. At end 19th it lost half its churchyard as its fortunes turned down once more.
