Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Pennygant is a fell in Roxburghshire/Borders, by the border of Dumfries and Galloway. It is contended that its name is of obscure meaning, but seems to mean `hill of the English, summit of the foreigners' in Cumbric and that it would apparently date from the occupation of the Dumfries area by Strathclyders in the ninth century, when it lay on the new frontier between Strathclyde and Northumbria. |
