Description of a pillar made up of eighteen stones carved with Anglo-Saxon and Celtic designs, currently located in the church. The authors give an overview of the history of Norham monastery, which is believed to have been founded in the ninth century, and of excavations during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries which uncovered these and other stones, including one with an inscription which has since been lost. | ||||
