Reports an investigation into the use of X-ray fluorescence analysis in conjunction with discriminant analysis for characterizing groups of mounted flat-polished garnets in the Sutton Hoo jewellery in comparison with material from other European contexts. Most of the Sutton Hoo garnets are compositionally consistent with the distribution of the Frankish compositions and are unlike most of the Gotlandic/S Russian compositions. | |
