Abstract:
Analytical data from 12th century glass (from excavations and from windows) is compared with Old Sarum, Winchester, and Chartres data. Three principal groups are isolated, of which one appears to be reused Roman glass (cf 12th century reference in Theophilus). Medieval stained glass of soda-lime-silicate type is less rare than previously thought.
