Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Analysis of the distribution of EBA barrow cemeteries in relation to three major monumental complexes (the South Dorset Ridgeway, Avebury, and Stonehenge) indicates that the location of barrows and cemeteries was strictly regulated. Although there are regional variations, an underlying structural principle is identified. This tradition of cemetery regulation appears to have continued to affect mortuary behaviour well into the Middle Bronze Age, alongside new systems of settlement and burial pattern. Possibilities for future research are outlined. | ||||||||||||||
