SZ 533765. The burial, disturbed during building work, forms an interesting addition to the few EIA warrior burials known in England. The ?flexed skeleton was accompanied by a sword and a shield with iron fittings. The sword, of La Tène III type with rounded tip, was corroded into the remains of its flat-topped scabbard of iron edged with a punch-decorated bronze strip. Three iron rings were probably part of the sword-harness. There were also fragments of an iron cover for the boss and spine of an insular form of shield, a reconstruction of which has been made by the London Institute of Archaeology. | |||||||||||
