Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The apparent dearth of material is corrected by bringing together scattered references and more recent excavation findings, to reveal six generalized types of burial. These are: pit- or ditch-burials, the Durotrigian cemeteries of S Dorset, the cists of the SW, the E Yorks square barrows, occasional (?intrusive) warrior burials, and La Tène III cremations. These are all of middle to late date in the Iron Age, and certain features (such as body position and orientation) shared between these groups may imply some common ancestry of rite, although there is still very little burial evidence for the period 1000-400 BC. | |||||||||||
