Abstract:
A surprising range and variety of prehistoric wooden artefacts has survived in all regions of Britain, and is catalogued here. Much more has vanished through lack of proper treatment on exposure, or from failure to recognize its evanescent traces in excavations or on weapons. Prehistoric man showed good knowledge of which woods best suited particular applications, and information on modern primitive tribes allows further insights into uses and ownership of wood.
