Abstract:
The study aimed to determine whether the stylistic divisions which have been drawn in the past were mirrored by chemical composition. Analysis of local clays had demonstrated the suitability of the analytical and statistical techniques for identifying patterns in the data. Results for the later prehistoric ceramics indicated local production and distribution for the pottery, whereas the metalworking moulds and crucibles had used either different clay sources or different preparation methods. Stress is laid on the need for accurate identification of sample contexts.
