Survey undertaken by RCHME in view of severe erosion by hill-walkers revealed a unique construction method for the rampart, with orthostats on inner face, drystone walling on outer face, and stone 'throughs' making transverse divisions in the rampart body, for which no completely convincing explanation is found. In default of dating evidence a 1st millennium BC date is assumed, but the fort is geographically, altitudinally, and typologically isolated, and its 20 house circles may not represent permanent occupation. | |||
