Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A description of the settlement at Ullunda, focusing on fortuitous survival of a series of horses' hoof prints impressed into a clay surface. Using the prints, it was possible to demonstrate that the animals had been used as beasts of burden during construction of a longhouse. Police specialists assisted the archaeologists in recording the marks and taking silicone rubber casts. Significantly, it is thought that this is the earliest direct evidence for the use of horses in everyday contexts. The remains are being subjected to detailed analysis. | ||
