Abstract:		 Describes investigation of remains below water in the River Forth, presumed to be from the Ancient Bridge of Stirling, destroyed in 1297 after the Battle of Stirling Bridge. Two known masonry piers were re-located and surveyed, and two more piers located for the first time. These four piers lie in a straight line diagonally across the Forth. It is argued that they represent some of the eight piers shown on the Old Common Seal of the Burgh of Stirling. Excavation on the south bank revealed masonry that might be part of the bridge abutment, but nothing similar was found on the north bank. No dating evidence could be obtained.
