Abstract:
NS 718787. Part of a damaged Roman inscription recently recovered 2km north of the Antonine Wall appears to be the Tanicius altar recorded informally by Camden between 1607 and 1623 but traditionally assigned to a location at Cadder. An Antonine date is preferred to an Agricolan one and Bar Hill fort is suggested as a likely original source.
