Abstract:		 Excavations were carried out to assist in the conservation of the structures and to enhance their display. The inner moat was sectioned and excavation carried out in the outer ward. Remains of roads, a gatehouse and a rock causeway were all recovered. The profile of the Edwardian town defences was also examined and an attempt is made to deduce the layout of the combined town and castle defences plan. Includes details of pottery, tile, stone and wooden finds and a listing of context numbers.
