Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
This report discusses the second period of excavation and masonry consolidation at Dolforwyn Castle. The castle's archaeological importance lay in its construction by Llywelyn ap Gruffydd in 1273, his final castle building, and its short period of Welsh occupation before the English siege and capture in 1277. Excavation has shown details of the plan in the south-eastern part of the site, but also indicated a substantial English modification and occupation lasting well into the fourteenth century. The description of the buildings includes the Round Tower, the curtain wall between that tower and the Keep, the South Gate and the south range. | ||
