This castle with its extensive defence was built in 1223 to replace Hen Domen. The first part of the report comprises a tabulated list of documentary items related to the structural history of the castles, its environment and the context of the excavated remains (105-23). The remainder describes the excavation of the inner gatehouse, inner and middle wards, the inner and outer ditches, outworks and the barbican together with a dovecote, kilns, well, kitchen, brewhouse and various dwellings (some of sixteenth and seventeenth centuries). | |||||||||
