[SJ 223431, SJ 307572]. These are hilltop sites fortified in stone by the Welsh c 1270; Caergwrle (Hope) was reconstructed for Edward I in 1282 but accidentally burnt and never finished. Dinas Bran had a large square keep forward of an elaborately-vaulted gatehouse, with rock-cut ditches. Caergwrle had part of a round tower 17m across and two other D-shaped towers, one with very thin walls to the upper floor. DFR | |||||
