Abstract:		 The prehistoric attribution of the 'embanked stone circle' round the churchyard was questioned as long ago as 1936. Consideration of the 18th century tourist and antiquarian literature, church records, and cartographic evidence, combine to reinforce the doubts; the enclosure appears to owe its shape and form to churchyard improvements of 1807 and later.
