Report of watching brief on works at Hill House, Pleshey, within the area of the medieval town enclosure, which revealed a quantity of disarticulated human bones, some of which were collected for analysis, and a number of flint rubble features interpreted as wall footings. A resistivity survey in the adjacent field appeared to indicate a rectangular aisled building on an east-west alignment. The report considers these along with earlier finds on the site including fragments of tile and several large pewter fragments thought to represent a chalice and patten. The authors conclude that the evidence implies that the original church of St Mary is adjacent to, and partly underlies, Hill House. | ||||||||||||||
