Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Historical account and report of the excavation of a medieval moated manor house, including reference to land use and ownership as detailed by documentary sources. Excavation revealed a sequence of building and alteration starting with the original manor house, which was probably built in the early fourteenth century. Additions included a gatehouse, solar and new wing during the medieval period. The medieval house fell into disuse and was robbed for its stone during the post-medieval period, when a new manor house was built, possibly in the early-seventeenth century. This itself was remodelled and added to until the house was finally and dramatically destroyed by a V1 flying bomb in 1944. | ||||||||||||||
