Abstract:
Reports excavations at a number of sites in the town, provides an up to date gazetteer of finds, and makes recommendations for future research. The RB 'small town' and its Iron Age antecedents are discussed in relation to the road network and other factors, and the origins of the medieval town (formally founded in 1199) are explored. Pottery (samian and coarse wares), coins, bones and metalwork are catalogued.
