Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
In 1968 Thurrock Museum acquired the J.G. Coates Collection of antiquities obtained from workmen engaged in gravel quarrying at Stanford le Hope, probably during the 1930s. The exact provenance of the material cannot be ascertained with certainty and whilst it may well have come from the Dobson and Ellis pit, which is known to have been yielding much archaeological material about that time (TQ 687828) Mr Bingley has established that three other quarries were operating in the area and which cannot be ruled out. The collection comprises nine flint implements, five Romano-British pottery vessels and one Anglo-Saxon pot. They are described here. | |||||||||
