Excavation provided evidence for Roman suburban development and later Roman cemetery use just outside Colchester's Balkerne Gate. Six periods of Roman occupation, spanning the late first to fourth centuries, were identified. One of the buildings, interpreted as a late Roman temple or shrine, is similar to a previously excavated example nearby, while another may have contained a domestic shrine. PP-B | ||||||
