Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Discusses the role of local authority conservation services in managing significance in the historic environment, including both designated and non-designated buildings and their settings. There is currently a disconnection between change through development and the management of existing places; added to this, conservation services are often stretched beyond capacity. The Institute of Historic Building Conservation has been working to address these challenges, focusing on enhanced standards in conservation training for practitioners and more effective integration between local authorities and the development industry.
