Abstract:
Reports that fragments of wood found on excavations at London's Roman amphitheatre site have been identified as stone pine (Pinus pinea). This non-native tree produces edible pine nuts and previous finds of cones have been considered to have been imported -- however, the latest evidence is thought to prove that the stone pine was actually being grown in Roman London.
