Abstract:
Aisled halls and their derivatives occur only rarely in Somerset. Four such aisled trusses forming the low-end partition walls of four late medieval halls are illustrated and compared. Their structure suggests a chronological sequence, and the possibility is discussed that the two later examples may have been designed chiefly for display.
