Describes the houses, kitchens, barns, stables and cowsheds of the rural area of the parish of Ingatestone as they were in the second half of the sixteenth century. Various aspects of the building activity which took place in the parish during this period are discussed and it is concluded that this peak in a continuum of modernisation should be termed a `housing revolution' rather than a `great rebuilding'. | ||||||
