The 50-mile wide belt of land which runs from the Dee Estuary to the Dorset-Hampshire coast is examined for architectural features which may indicate long-lasting traditions of social organization and craftsmanship. Maps are provided of square buildings and guard-chambers in hillforts; of larger cruck buildings; of crucks with Type B apex; and of major and non-ecclesiastical buildings using ball-flower ornament. | ||
