SK 354839. Bishops' House, Meersbrook Park (Sheffield), now a museum, was originally a hall-house with kingpost roof of 15th-16th century. Timbers from three of its building phases were subjected to dendrochronological analysis and produced a mean curve 233 years in length, giving felling dates respectively of after 1470, after 1570, and after 1615 for the three phases. Reasons for the good matches between curves for S Germany, W Midlands/Wales, N Ireland and this Bishops' House example are discussed. | |||||||
