Abstract:
Analysis of the pipes from West Whelpington (see 71/1073) was designed to test the usefulness to NE English material of the Harrington and Binford methods of analysis (68/276). While parts of the sample were too small for confidence, the indications are that the NE English pattern of bore development diverges markedly from the American pattern, perhaps because of the change in the source of supply noted by Parsons at about 1670.
