Abstract:
Puts forward a theory regarding the origins and significance of this piece of Saxon glassware, excavated from a cemetery site and provisionally dated to the fifth century AD. The bowl's Latin inscription is believed to relate to St Rufinus of Soissons and may have been brought to Kent by a migrant Frank who had links with Soissons and Frankish Christianity.
