Abstract:		 A bronze decorated flat axe and two pieces of raw copper waste were discovered during excavation of a wedge-shaped megalithic tomb, carefully placed against an upright stone outside the chamber, probably as a votive deposit related to metalworking activity. The axe may belong late in the sequence of simple flat axes; its typological background lies in the north or east of Ireland. Compositional and metallographic analysis are discussed; the copper of the axe and the waste came from the same source, which cannot be identified but need not be local.
