Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Reports on excavations conducted over three seasons between 1984 and 1986, aimed at elucidating surface features of the tomb which had been damaged by land improvement work. Part of the slab revetment and some residual features at the base of the cairn were revealed. Two small quarries may be contemporary or later features. Lithic material is considered to be Neolithic and other artefacts are typical of portal tomb excavations. It is thought that significant structural damage had occurred prior to the land improvement work in the early 1980s. Appendices comprise a note on `The placename Melkagh' by Brian MacCurtain (239), a `Detailed description of soils' (240), a `Detailed description of sediments in north-eastern and southern areas of excavation' (241--2), and a report on `Technical and microwear examination of concave scraper (E286:3)' by Valerie Keeley (243--4). | ||||||
