Abstract:
Demonstrates how the distribution of particular amphora types indicates that wine was still being exported from Campania through the third century AD. Examples are drawn from South Shields on Hadrian's Wall, and other British sites with military connections, and various typological differences are described and explained in terms of, for example, changing methods of transportation. Much can be learned from the study about the Italian wine economy during this period. AR
