Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The author considers the transformations that took place during the third century AD, and the presumptions that have been made about them. In particular he distinguishes different levels of analysis -- the structural, the temporal and the regional. The evidence of literary sources, epigraphy, numismatics and archaeology are considered, and regional surveys presented of various areas of the West including Britain. The author concludes that the model of a temporally extensive, Empire-wide crisis affecting all areas of human life cannot be reconciled with the complexity of individual processes. | ||||
