Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Survey of recent work on medical equipment used by doctors in the Roman Empire, with select bibliography. In the northern Empire collyrium (oculists') stamps are often found at baths and healing shrines (eg Bath) and may have been used by `circuit doctors' on their rounds. Wooden writing tablets found at Vindolanda have indicated that eye diseases were common. Illustrations of all major classes of known Roman medical instruments are provided. MH | ||||
