Abstract:		 The exact site of the crash of a US Army P47 Thunderbolt was identified initially using a metal detector. Subsequent excavation recovered pieces of the cockpit and the nose of the engine was found at a depth of 4m below the surface. No other archaeological remains were encountered, although prehistoric occupation had previously been recorded in the same field.
